Yoga has the potential to change our lives in the best ways possible – if we make space for it. Primary focus is the practice that gives access to a deeper level of spiritual experience and lets us see the world with more clarity. Philosophy helps us to make sense of these experiences, solve our doubts and guides us in the right direction. Together these two paths provide us with a foundation to grow spiritually.
During this week we will explore both the practices of yoga like asana, pranayama, meditation and chanting and dive into the knowledge behind it, as it was passed down from the ancient saints of India. We will learn about the foundation of yoga philosophy and explore one of the essential teachings of the Bhagavad Gita of dharma and karma yoga. What is the right thing for me to do? How can I be and act in this world while keeping spirituality at the heart of my life? These are questions the Gita rises and offers guidance for – understanding philosophy as a practical guide, not a merely intellectual approach.
We will offer two to three sessions a day with daily Jivamukti practice, philosophy classes, meditation, Sanskrit chanting, singing and yoga nidra. There will be time to relax, swim, enjoy the beaches and explore the Cretan nature and surrounding mountain villages.
The retreat will be held in either English or German, depending on the participants.

For the first time the Hanuman Shala will be your home for this special retreat. It is a space for learning, sharing, and learning to share — exploring Yoga, breath, meditation, music, arts, bodywork and healing, wishing to design collective architectures of equality and sustainability.
Hanuman Shala, receiving its name from the site’s patron Sri Hanuman, is an architectual gem in the eastern bay of Triopetra, overlooking the sea. Recently the land has been transformed to host yoga practitioners and spiritual seekers, keeping the spirit of communal living at its heart.
Note: Hanuman Shala is a community driven project. This former family home has been transformed to host yoga practicioners and offer a space to deepen the practice and share company with likeminded people. This experience includes shared bathrooms and common areas, no single rooms and a short walk (5 min) to our neighbor Pavlos’ Place where we will eat and use the Yoga Shala. We ask participants to keep this spirit in mind and make sure expectations are aligned and thoughtfulness is considered.
THE LAND
“Triopetra”, the “three stones”, the striking rock formation that gives this magical place on the south coast of Crete its name, has become a symbol for many yoga practitioners who find their way back here again and again. It is easy to understand why. In connection with the experience of the wild, mystical landscape, surrounded by the deep blue Libyan Sea and its untouched, secluded beaches, daily yoga practice becomes a doorway to discovering the inner Self.
The area invites long hikes and extended walks along the beach, and of course it is equally perfect for slow, unhurried afternoons by the sea.
FOOD AND PRACTICE
Nestled into the coastline, and only a 5 minute walk from the Hanumanshala, Kretashala is located directly by the sea. This lovingly run, family owned guesthouse will feed us with excellent vegetarian cuisine, mostly prepared from their own locally grown produce and host us in their yoga shala.
Practicing for almost a decade, Anabel decided in 2024 to take the leap and find answers to a question that had been calling her for a long time: What happens if one dedicates their focus and energy to yoga and makes the practice the main priority in life? Since then it’s been a process of searching and finding, mainly while studying philosophy, Yoga and Sanskrit with her teacher in India. When not in India, Anabel spends time in Crete or visiting her former home base Munich, sharing what she has learned and practices herself.
After finding Yoga and practicing for many years, Nadine was introduced to teaching asana in 2017. Since then she has found her own style of sharing the practice, rooted in the Jivamukti method and strongly influenced by her own creativity, calmness, Buddhist meditation techniques and her wish to help expand the values of yoga into the world.
Singing and playing harmonium are an essential part of her classes, weaving devotion and chanting into her teachings. Nadine is advanced certified within the Jivamukti system, she teaches and shares her experience as a mentor at Jivamukti Munich while also studying at the academy of fine arts.
